Can you tell me about your Data, Security, and Backup policies?
Your data is your data—your customer, sales, and store data. If you decide to leave Uptivity, you can take it with you. But while you are with us, we will store it in world-class data centres in the US and EU. It is protected and secure there and regularly backed up.
Can I have my webshop on my server in my office? I feel it’s secure there.
In a word, no. There are many reasons this wouldn’t work. Your server may be secure from burglars breaking in (although it probably isn’t as burglar-proof as it needs to be), but what about the burglars who come down the internet? Cyber security, server software upgrades, and hardware failure/replacement are significant enough tasks. Added to this are issues around availability and performance from the customer’s perspective. Compared to your internet connection, world-class data centres have vast internet pipelines and have built-in contingency. Using anything other than cloud data centres for hosting is impractical and undesirable.
My experience with other platforms (and payment providers) is that they almost find the merchant an inconvenience. They’re happy to take my money, but their policies (and systems) feel they are designed to make life difficult for me. Are you different? If so, how?
I’m sorry to hear that, although I’m not surprised. We all have the experience of receiving unfathomable demands from organisations, public and private. It’s because they are run, managed and staffed by people who -however well-meaning- have no experience being on the other side of the fence. They don’t know the working life of a merchant, businessperson, or ordinary person. At Uptivity, that is not the case. Some people have worked in the business world and have varied life experiences.
